On yesterday’s Fox
13 “Your Turn” program, Alfredia Mulkey of Tampa Bay WorkForce Alliance took
part in an important and timely discussion on ‘how networks and groups help support
a job search’. Mulkey provided Fox 13 viewers with expert advice on creating
their own personal job search and networking strategies.
A key program discussed at length was TBWA’s Professional
Networking Group, a weekly get-together of Tampa professionals looking to
acquire better, more effective job search and networking skills. The TBWA
Professional Networking Group meets each Monday from 9 -11 a.m. Often speaking at TBWA Networking Group
sessions are Tampa-area human resources professionals (and other recruiters) who
share valuable information on what they look for in job candidates.
Mulkey also spoke on such topics as:
- How best to develop and present a 30-second
elevator speech, which gives job seekers an opportunity to communicate ‘who
they are’ and ‘what they’re looking for’ in a job.
- The importance of networking and not relying
solely on Internet-based job searching.
- How to dress for a job interview: for entry-level
positions, slacks and a button-up shirt are fine, but professional-level job candidates
should wear a dark suit.
Other Tampa-area job search experts on the panel
included Ron Weaver of RealEstatesLives.org,
a support group for out-of-work real estate agents, and Jim Kissane, who works
with a job seeker support group with St. Paul Catholic Church.
